A new technical directive, TD018, aimed at tightening control over wing flexibility, will come into effect in Singapore. It is not yet clear whether this will somehow affect the balance of power, but Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff doubts whether the new directive will slow down Red Bull Racing.
“It will be interesting,” Toto Wolff shared his opinion in Singapore. – We have already seen how Aston Martin took a step back after their wings became less mobile, but I don’t know what this has to do with. Let’s wait and see how things develop.
I don’t know which team has the most flexible wings. Maybe Red Bull, but we can talk about that if their cars suddenly go half a second slower. That would be great, but I don’t think that will happen.”
Nicholas Tombasis, director of the FIA’s single-seater racing series, believes the introduction of the technical directive will not have a significant impact on the balance of power.
“I don’t think we will see a big change,” says Tombasis. “Compared to other regulatory interventions we have made in the past, I do not expect revolutionary changes this time.”
