Max Verstappen: We are in worse shape than we expected

Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen showed the seventh and eighth fastest times in the second training session of the Singapore Grand Prix. Both Red Bull Racing drivers noted that the car’s speed was worse than expected and that it would be difficult to compete for pole in qualifying.

Sergio Perez (7th): “Something interesting is happening with the car, but I hope we’ll find out in the evening. The rear of the car behaves strangely, this was especially noticeable during the second practice session. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I hope the team can come up with the best possible settings. Qualifying on this circuit is very important.

We assumed that the Ferraris would be very fast on this track, but we were just far behind. I hope to be able to close the gap a bit on Saturday, but I do expect a difficult qualifying. It is important to improve the balance of the car because we are now behind.”

Max Verstappen (8th): “Today we look worse than expected. We have serious problems with the balance of the car and in the second practice we tried to solve something. Some solutions worked, others didn’t, but in the end we couldn’t make the car feel like one whole. There is still work to be done in the evening.

There are some things we just don’t understand. This is exactly what needs to be addressed. Of course we will try to improve tomorrow, but our gap is quite big. The Ferraris are very fast and we are in worse shape than we expected.”
