Fernando Alonso set the fourth fastest time in the second practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix, losing less than four-tenths to session leader Carlos Sainz. The Spanish Aston Martin driver assesses Friday’s results positively, but is in no hurry to make predictions.
His partner Lance Stroll rode more than a second behind the leader, setting the fourteenth fastest time. The Canadian noted that he is still dissatisfied with the car’s settings.
Fernando Alonso (4th): “Today was fun. I think the new track configuration was a step forward. The circle is a little faster, which helps you find a rhythm. I like the changes.
Today was a normal Friday in Singapore with heat and humidity. We have carried out important tests with the car and the tyres, so now we will see what happens tomorrow.
It is difficult to evaluate the results of the session as the main task today was to have confidence in the car and get used to the track. I think there will be a very exciting battle in qualifying. We can finish fifth or sixth, or not get out of the second part if we lose a few tenths in the round. Tomorrow we have to do perfect laps to guarantee a good result in the race.”
Lance walk (14th): “I think the new circuit configuration has proven to be good and it is interesting to drive on it. I don’t know if it helps with overtaking, because there is not too much braking in Turn 16. We will know on Sunday.
Today I couldn’t find the pace I needed, so I have to work at night to understand where we can improve. We have to adjust the settings a bit to come back stronger in qualifying.”
