Following Friday’s results, Alfa Romeo called the first day of the weekend in Singapore productive as the team assessed the performance of new products and also prepared for qualifying and the race.
Valtteri Bottas (10th): “In general, the day went well: the information collected allowed us to positively assess the work of the new products that the team brought to Singapore. It feels like there’s more downforce and a more stable rear end, so the redesigned C43 makes a good impression.
Our pace allowed us to reach the top ten, but we have to keep working and trying to improve so that tomorrow, when it’s really important, we can fight for good positions.
The goal for this weekend is to earn points again. I think if we do everything right, there is a chance. On a track like this, where overtaking is difficult, the qualifying results are obviously very important.”
Guanyu Zhou (17th): “Driving at the Singapore circuit with the new ring configuration was interesting – I liked the changes as the loads were reduced a bit and it became more fun to drive. There are also more opportunities to overtake, but problems still remain.
The day went quite smoothly, we managed to complete the whole program, although in the first session we did not drive on soft tires at all, and in the second session we did such a race, but the lap was not the best.
I think we are still faster than the results suggest. If we manage to improve tomorrow, we need to move up a few positions. Now we finally have to decide on the settings and prepare well for Saturday.
In qualifying it is very important to choose the right moment to go onto the track so that you can prepare for a fast lap, as in the last sector all the cars will gather in a close group.”
