The Williams team was unlucky on the first day of work at the Singapore circuit – Alex Albon’s car had problems with the power plant and he missed almost the entire second practice session.
Alex Albon (20th): “We think the problems with my car are related to the battery. I started the lap and at first everything seemed to be going well, but when I got to the straight the ERS system started to work intermittently and didn’t provide any extra power when accelerating.
I think we have already discovered the reasons for the problem, so the repair should not take too much time, but on this circuit I want to do more laps, because here you have to build confidence gradually.
Apart from this mistake, the rest of the car makes a good impression and I don’t think we will get a fine. But everything must be carefully checked.
Given that the car is getting very hot here and we haven’t had much time to work on the track, we will have to rely partly on our intuition tomorrow, but we should have time to prepare well for the third practice session.”
Logan Sargent (19th): “The second training went much better than the first, we were able to take a good step forward. My lap on soft tires was more or less normal, but in the last corner I made a mistake that cost me time. However, today we were able to discover a lot.
Tomorrow I will have some parts of the car replaced and that should help me. The team understood that a difficult weekend awaited us, as we were held back here by factors that were not present in the two previous stages. The challenge is to find a way to limit its impact as much as possible.”
Dave Robson, Chief Race Engineer: “A tough day, especially for Alex and his team. During the first training session, he and I decided to conduct a series of tests, hoping to complete the race preparations during the second session.
Unfortunately, due to a fault in the drivetrain’s ERS system, we had to end the second practice session after just a few laps on the hard tires. Today we are going to change the module on Alex’s car and in the third practice we will try to catch up.”
