Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said the team is following with interest Felipe Massa’s attempts to assess the results of the 2008 season. According to Toto, this story will set a precedent regardless of the final outcome.
Toto Wolff: “An interesting story, and it is interesting to follow its development. Obviously no one expected something like this. The rules in Formula 1 are extremely clear, so the matter will be looked at in terms of civil law relationships.
Of course, whatever the outcome, history will set a precedent. We look curiously from the outside.”
Asked whether the 2021 results could be revised if Massa succeeds in his claim, Wolff said: “The FIA has made a very clear statement on the results of the 2021 race. That is why we are following this story with interest.”
When Lewis Hamilton was asked to comment on the process that Felipe Massa has started with his lawyers, the Mercedes driver replied: “I don’t know if anyone has contacted us about this matter, but my opinion has not changed since I was asked a similar question.
I don’t think about what happened fifteen years ago or two years ago. My whole focus is on helping the team win another title in the future.”
