On Saturday, during the third practice session in Singapore, Max Verstappen was very upset due to transmission failures – he was so dissatisfied with the way the gears were shifted that he categorically said: “This car is impossible to drive!”
But Christian Horner, head of Red Bull Racing, hopes the team’s engineers will sort everything out and have time to prepare the two-time world champion’s car for qualifying.
Christian Horner: “The problems are related to the operation of the software and the electronic settings, so they must be corrected properly. Our specialists are now working on this and we hope that we can provide Max with a car where the gears shift up and down normally.
It is unlikely that anything can get in the way of this, the work continues – now the team pays maximum attention to this. Our rivals show very high speeds on this track, but this was quite expected, so all the more we have to fully exploit the car’s potential.
The characteristics of these types of circuits with their 90 degree turns are not best suited to the RB19, we have already seen this in both Monaco and Azerbaijan, although we still managed to win those races, but the rivalry was extremely intense.
Qualifying in Singapore promises to be very interesting and to qualify for high positions you will need to complete a perfect lap. We still believe that we can do well in both qualifying and tomorrow’s race.”
