After Lance Stroll’s accident, qualifying at the Singapore circuit was suspended, and in a break before the second session, Zak Brown spoke about McLaren’s duties in a situation where only one of his team’s drivers remains fighting.
“Unfortunately Oscar Piastri did not qualify for the next session. He had to abandon his last attempt, although he could possibly have reached the last qualifying,” McLaren CEO told Sky Sports. “That is why we will fully concentrate on working with Lando Norris until the end of qualifying.
We’re happy that the new features on his machine work quite effectively, and the difference in results between Lando and Oscar is only explained by the difference in the configuration of their machines. The team has done a great job, we managed to increase the speed of the MCL60 and I hope we can please the fans with good results this weekend.
We understood that by the end of the first session the track condition should improve and speeds increase. We knew this, so we sent both riders onto the track to try again. Overall, if all goes well, we will be happy if Lando can qualify in the top five.”
