Alfa Romeo drivers Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou did not make it to the first part of qualifying in Singapore, recording sixteenth and nineteenth times respectively. The team acknowledged the lack of speed and noted that it would not be easy to earn points in the race.
Valtteri Bottas (16th): “Today I was able to do some good laps, but we didn’t have enough to get into the second part. At the end of the last lap I found myself in traffic, but overall we had lost speed compared to Friday, so we had to compromise on the settings. It felt like we couldn’t get the most out of the car, which is disappointing because yesterday it seemed like we were on to something good.
It’s going to be a long day tomorrow and it won’t be easy to make progress in the race. To do this we need to develop the right strategy, and the track situation should work out in our favor. This is a city circuit and unpredictable situations have occurred in the past. If everything works out in our favor, we have a chance of a good result.”
Guanyu Zhou (19th): “Today we expected more, but to be honest it was difficult to count on the second part. Nineteenth place was disappointing, but reflected a difficult session.
I don’t feel comfortable in the car and it was difficult to come full circle. If you don’t have confidence on a track like this, you won’t be able to attack consistently, and you’ll pay for that in the end.
We need to understand where we went wrong. Tomorrow it won’t be easy to start from the last row, but there are chances. There may be opportunities to succeed in the race, including through strategy. Never say never: we will do everything we can to achieve results.”
