Alex Albon qualified fourteenth in Singapore and called this result the best possible result. His teammate Logan Sargent set the eighteenth fastest time. Williams remains the only team in which no driver has ever been ahead of his teammate in all qualifying sessions of the season.
Alex Albon (14th): “I think fourteenth place is our maximum for today, so I’m happy with the fact that I got out of the first part. In the second the car had no clutch like in the first. I don’t know what the reason is: the long wait in the pits or the insufficient preparation when leaving the pits.
This weekend I didn’t ride enough distance [из-за проблем с силовой установкой]so I feel like I’m constantly trying to catch up, but I haven’t managed to catch up yet.
The tires seem too soft for this circuit, so you have to drive quite slowly on the out and back laps. I don’t think we fully understood the tires given the limited time on track, but I don’t think if we had figured that out it would have dramatically affected the result.
I wasn’t able to do the mock race, which will make things even more difficult, but we will focus on tomorrow.”
Logan Sargent (18th): “To be honest, the weekend is going well for me. I feel comfortable on the track and have gained good speed.
Qualifying proved difficult as the track conditions changed every lap. I rode well in the last attempt, but went wide in Turn 10 and hit a bump. This caused the rear wheels to lock and the gear did not shift down. As a result, I lost four to five tenths, otherwise I would have been closer to where I should have been.
It’s a tough race ahead, but we have to be optimistic about tomorrow. The car looks better now than yesterday, so I hope this will help us.”
