The race in Singapore was the first of the season in which the victory did not go to the Red Bull Racing team. Furthermore, for the first time in the season, none of the team’s drivers could reach the podium: Max Verstappen finished fifth and Sergio Perez eighth.
After the finish, Max Verstappen assured his fans that such a result was rather an exception, and that the team would return to its usual form in the next stage in Suzuka, Japan.
Max Verstappen (5th): “I had bad luck with the safety car. Both times, in the real and virtual worlds, he came out at the wrong time for us. It’s a shame, but at least my second stint proved interesting as I overtook my rivals on Medium tyres.
Did I pass a race for the first time this year? I do not mind. It was quite normal to be overtaken when I had worn out tyres. I just couldn’t do anything.
I think we will be in Suzuka soon. It’s not my problem if it bothers my opponents in some way.”
Sergio Perez (8th): “As expected, the race turned out to be difficult. The situation on the track worked against us: the safety car came out at the most inopportune moment. The same happened with the virtual safety car.
I had a different strategy than everyone else. I think we did everything we could.”
