The fifteenth stage of the season, the Singapore Grand Prix, ended without success for Aston Martin. Before the summer holidays, the team thought they had their best chance of winning the year at the Marina Bay circuit, but everything turned out differently: Fernando Alonso did not earn any points for the first time in the season, finishing fifteenth and missing Lewis Hamilton for third place in the individual rankings.
In Singapore, however, Fernando added another record to his treasury: Alonso became the first driver in history to drive one hundred thousand kilometers in Formula 1 races.
His teammate Lance Stroll did not participate in the race after an accident in Saturday qualifying.
Fernando Alonso (15th): “A very difficult evening; everything that could go wrong, went wrong. It’s good that this all happened in one race. Let’s not forget that this is the first stage of the entire season in which we have not achieved any points.
We came to Singapore with quite high expectations, but this is a quite unique stage. The race pace was dependent on tire temperature, and I may have exaggerated it a bit. There is a lot to learn from the weekend; lessons need to be learned and improvements need to be made in many ways. We have to get better.
Now let’s forget about last weekend and focus on the next round in Suzuka.”
Mike Krak, team leader: “The team spent some difficult days in Singapore. Today we will only start one car and wait for Lance’s return to Japan.
Fernando’s race was ruined at the pit stop during the virtual safety car when the rear jack was not immediately installed correctly. We need to analyze what exactly happened. But even without this problem, it was difficult to earn points today. We will draw conclusions from these difficult days and move on.
There is still a lot of work to be done as we need to understand how we can improve. The end of the season is still far away – there are still seven races ahead, in which there are many opportunities to earn points.
Finally, I would like to thank our team members who worked in Singapore, especially the technicians who had to work long hours in difficult conditions all week. Thanks everyone”.
