Lando Norris finished second in Singapore, repeating his best result of the season. After the race, McLaren driver Carlos Sainz thanked him for being allowed to stay in the DRS zone and thus defend himself against George Russell’s attacks.
McLaren’s success on the city circuit was consolidated by Oscar Piastri, who finished seventh.
Lando Norris (2nd): “Carlos was very generous in helping me stay in the DRS zone. This not only helped me, but also him.
As soon as the Mercedes drivers went to the pits, we immediately realized that it was going to be difficult. They only had to pass a few cars to catch me, but I held them off, finished second and made it to the podium.
I hit the wall in the same spot as George. I think he repeated it just after me, but the result was much worse. I feel sorry for him; he fought, had a tough race and was the fastest today. His derailment helped me a little; I was able to relax in the last few corners.”
Oscar Piastri (7th): “I am very happy that I have earned points again with a good result. I feel very tired, but my first Singapore Grand Prix is already behind me. Of course it wasn’t the easiest weekend, but in the end I finished seventh. I’m very satisfied and happy for our whole team, because Lando made it to the podium today! I hope that we can now perform with confidence in Japan.
The task was complicated by the fact that I started in a distant 17th position, and by the fact that my car was not in the same configuration as my partner’s. So today the most we could expect was sixth place, for Pierre Gasly. But I’m not angry that I didn’t succeed. Although I probably could have done better at some stages of the race, and the pace was a bit lacking for me. But overall I am very satisfied.
Of course, I’m looking forward to receiving all the new features already installed on Lando’s car next weekend – always fun!”
