On the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix, George Russell crashed his car, losing the chance to climb to the podium. Commenting on the day’s results, he denied being distracted by the Norris incident…
George Russell: “I saw Lando hit the wall and thought to myself, “Oh, he just hit the wall,” and a few tenths later he hit himself. But my accident has nothing to do with the Lando incident.
At the end of the race I was quite exhausted. It proved difficult due to the need to constantly monitor tire wear – I wanted them to be fine at the finish. That’s why I asked the team to tell me the optimal lap time. I didn’t want to accelerate half a second on the lap and then be left without tires. But Lewis was behind, he pressed constantly.
I was confident that everything would turn out well when this accident happened. It should not have happened, the outcome could have been very different.”
