Ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, Kevin Magnussen spoke about what he has been up to since the Singapore race and what he likes about the Suzuka stage.
Q: Some riders chose to stay in Singapore for a few days, while others decided to fly straight to Japan to spend a few days there before work started in Suzuka. What was your plan?
Kevin Magnussen: After the race I stayed in Singapore with my team for a few days, to rest and also train. I think it’s good to relax after the race, but also spend some time training to be well prepared for Suzuka.
Question: Your best result at Suzuka was 8th place in your very first season with Haas. What makes this circuit different from others?
Kevin Magnussen: This is just a cool song! She is very fast and has an incredibly organic configuration. I think the circuit is also known for hosting exciting battles in Formula 1 races at various times. There is a lot to do with the memory of Ayrton Senna, because at that time famous events took place in the history of the championship; just think of the incident between Senna and Alain Prost on the first lap in the first corner.
It’s good when different Formula 1 races have their own differences, that they don’t look alike. Suzuka is unique in that respect, I think that’s great.
Q: The Japanese Grand Prix is also unique in the atmosphere the fans create, regardless of the weather conditions. With such a busy weekend schedule, do you have time to pay attention to this?
Kevin Magnussen: Japanese fans are real enthusiasts. Japan has an incredibly developed sporting culture and they really love Formula 1; fans make all kinds of souvenirs, hats and flags with their own hands. They really have a passion for it and that is always nice to see.
