George Russell is in his fourth season in Formula 1 with four podiums and no wins to date. The Mercedes driver dreams of winning his first race on his home track at Silverstone, but realizes it will not be an easy task.
George Russell: “I want my first podium finish at Silverstone to be my first Formula 1 win and that’s what I’m aiming for. Of course, if I get second or third on the last lap, I won’t slow down so as not to climb onto the podium.
Silverstone has a special place in my heart. It was on this circuit that I drove my first race and got my first win, it was here that I got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time. This is my home race, I have a huge support and I’m ready to give my best.
I think we are waiting for an electrified atmosphere this weekend. I remember last year at Silverstone there was a race with fans in the stands for the first time in a year and a half. We got a lot of support – it was nice that the audience came back.
Every rider enjoys coming to iconic circuits and countries where the sport is very popular with fans. In my case, all these factors are combined at Silverstone. I have an incredible weekend ahead of me.”
