Alex Albon had a very good time during the Singapore Grand Prix and should have earned points, but this opportunity was denied him by Sergio Perez, who collided with a Williams car while attempting to overtake. At a press conference in Suzuka, Alex was asked if he was going to send the Mexican Red Bull Racing driver a Christmas card.
“And you should also ask Yuki Tsunoda for his opinion on Sergio!” the Williams driver responded laughing, remembering that Perez also hit the Japanese AlphaTauri at the start of the previous race, after which he immediately left the race. – Of course, Sergio remains on the list of those I want to congratulate. Although we were obviously upset last weekend when we couldn’t earn any points, but Perez has already been forgiven.
Now Suzuka is waiting for us, and this track should suit our car better, unlike the one in Singapore. Our disappointment is even greater because we didn’t even really expect points there, and when I managed to reach the top ten it was great. But in the end we got nothing.
In Suzuka we will have to work with harder tires, but actually it is not about those tires, but about the properties of the track itself. There’s not a lot of heavy braking here, but there is high-speed cornering, which is exactly what our FW45 fits in with. On Friday we will be testing prototypes of Pirelli tires in practice, which is not only interesting, but also good because we can do more laps.
The Japanese circuit is my favorite on the entire championship calendar. Here you fully feel what it is like to drive a Formula 1 car, in Singapore, for example, this is clearly less noticeable. Another difference with Suzuki is that the track is fast, but at the same time quite narrow, so you really feel the speed here and experience strong emotions. Generally not like, for example, Paul Ricard.
I also like the food in Japan: I probably gained three kilos in three days here! And that’s not a bad thing!”
