Bottas: New products are designed for circuits like Suzuka

Even in Singapore, the Alfa Romeo team presented a number of technical innovations, although it was difficult to assess their effectiveness on the city circuit, but Valtteri Bottas hopes that this will be possible in Suzuka. But at the press conference on Thursday, the Finn did not only talk about racing matters…

Vatteri Bottas: “On the way to Suzuka I visited the city of Kyoto for the first time and it was very interesting there, I was able to see a lot. This time I decided not to go to Suzuki via Tokyo, but to visit somewhere else. Kyoto is a traditional Japanese city – the country’s former capital, by the way, if anyone doesn’t know.

When we talk about Suzuka, I, like everyone else, am happy to return to this circuit. It’s very cool to ride here and I have wonderful memories of it. It stands out for its organic configuration, the corners seem to flow into each other, and if we add the enthusiasm of the Japanese fans, it all adds up to giving us this unique Grand Prix.

We knew that we would face difficulties in the previous phase in Singapore, and in that phase it was not easy to assess the effectiveness of the technical innovations we presented there. We’ve only made sure they work more or less normally, but in theory we should get more out of them, thanks to the high-speed nature of the Japanese circuit.

Since they are designed specifically for these types of tracks, we are interested in how they will perform here. We need to optimize their work, and hopefully this will allow us to be more competitive.”
