Liam Lawson made a successful debut in Formula 1, scoring his first points for ninth at the final round in Singapore. The New Zealand driver is mentioned as one of the candidates for a place in AlphaTauri for 2024, but the option has not been ruled out where he does not get a place in the team and remains a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing. In Suzuka, Liam said he would not like such a development of events.
Liam Lawson: “I won’t be happy about returning to the role of reserve driver, but I fully understand how difficult it is to get a place in Formula 1. What happens will happen – I don’t really think about it and try to make the most of the opportunity presented.”
AlphaTauri expects Daniel Ricciardo to get back behind the wheel at the next round in Qatar and Lawson confirmed this: “I think a return to Qatar is a realistic goal, but I don’t know how feasible that is. After the race in Suzuka I will make some preparations for Qatar, but the team’s goal is to get Daniel back behind the wheel.”
