Charles Leclerc: We won’t be able to fight for victories regularly

Ferrari drivers demonstrated high speed in Monza and Singapore – on two circuits whose characteristics are radically different from each other. Charles Leclerc said the team has come to understand the SF-23 car much better, and that the aim of the Japanese Grand Prix is to get ahead of its nearest rivals, Mercedes and McLaren.

Charles Leclerc: “This year it is very difficult to predict the competitiveness of this or that team, as the balance of forces changes from circuit to circuit. We didn’t expect Red Bull to have such serious problems in Singapore, and at the same time we didn’t expect to be so fast ourselves.

I hope we also get a pleasant surprise this weekend, but we still assume that Red Bull will be in the lead and that, like all season, we will have an exciting battle with McLaren and Mercedes. Every hundredth of a second will matter, but we will do our best to be the best of the rest.

After the Zandvoort stage we started to understand the car well. We carried out a lot of tests at Zandvoort, which turned out to be very useful for the whole team. Two phases later we understand the machine even better, and this is crucial for future developments.

In the short term I don’t think we can regularly compete for victories, but at least we can get the most out of the car. This will help in the battle against Mercedes and McLaren, because the difference between us is only a few hundredths every weekend.”
