Last week, Red Bull Racing had its worst race of the season in Singapore, with none of the drivers making it onto the podium. On Thursday, Sergio Perez said at the FIA press conference that the team should return to its usual positions in Suzuka.
Sergio Perez: “Our goal is to return to our usual form. We don’t yet fully understand what exactly went wrong in Singapore, but we do have a few suspicions. The Suzuka track is very different in terms of characteristics to the one in Singapore, so there is no reason why we can’t get here soon. The Japanese circuit is one of the most suitable for our car.
As I said, we have different assumptions about what exactly went wrong in the final phase, and what information we were missing in preparation for the weekend. Of course I can’t give you the details, but everything indicates that we chose the wrong settings in preparation for the weekend. We were more competitive in the race than in qualifying, but it was still not enough.
In preparation for the Japanese round on the simulator the car felt good on this circuit, but in preparation for Singapore it also looked good. I hope everything goes well this time, because this song has to suit us.
It will be great if we win the Constructors’ Championship at Honda this weekend. The operators have worked very hard, so it would be great if we get a win this weekend. This year the team is performing at an excellent level in all areas, from strategy to mechanics, and we have had virtually no reliability issues.”
