Three-time world champion Nelson Piquet has apologized to the racing community and Lewis Hamilton for making a racist remark in November 2021 while commenting on the Silverstone incident. Pique assures he was misunderstood…
Nelson Piquet: “I want to clarify some points about last year’s interview, which is now being commented on in the media.
I have never used the word I am accused of in some translations. Yes, I didn’t think about it then, and I’m not looking for excuses now, but in the Brazilian version of Portuguese, the phrase I pronounced is often used as a synonym for the words “boy” or “man” – and never served as an insult.
I strongly condemn any suggestion that the word was used by me to belittle a horseman because of the color of his skin. I offer my sincere apologies to everyone who was injured, including Lewis, who I believe is a great rider.
Discrimination has no place in Formula 1 or in society and I am happy to have the opportunity to explain this.”
