Aston Martin drivers are generally pleased with the performance of their cars at the Suzuka circuit and expect to qualify for the final qualifying session on Saturday.
Fernando Alonso (6th): “I literally just came out of the cockpit, so I still don’t know what kind of information the team has collected – this all still needs to be analyzed, and let’s hope we can compete competitively in tomorrow’s qualifying.
The car makes a good impression and overall it is always interesting to drive here when we return to Suzuka. Formula 1 cars are specially designed for these types of tracks, so we get real fun behind the wheel. It remains to be seen whether we will be fast enough.
Let’s see if we can reach the qualifying final, but so far we have succeeded in all phases of the season, so the goal remains the same, but I foresee that the battle will be tough.”
Lance walk (11th): “I don’t feel any consequences from the accident in Singapore, everything is fine. The car makes a good impression, but still needs some work and attention in a number of areas.
It’s a lot of fun to drive on this track, so I’m already looking forward to qualifying tomorrow. Suzuka is my favorite track, it always feels special and our goal for Saturday is to qualify for the final session.
If we talk about the prototype Pirelli tires that we tested today, the grip on them is very poor, so I can’t say that I liked them.”
