Bottas: In Suzuka our chances in qualifying are already better

During Friday’s training sessions in Suzuka, the Alfa Romeo team was busy optimizing the performance of technical innovations presented in Singapore. Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou managed to complete the program of the first day of the Japanese weekend, completing many laps and testing different settings.

Valtteri Bottas (10th): “In general, Friday went well. It’s always fun to drive at this track and I’m glad we returned to Suzuka. It seems the team has gone one step further by working with new products and using the information collected in Singapore.

We managed to get higher speeds from the car and select the optimal settings. But the work continues and now we have to analyze all the data and try to add more tomorrow.

I think most of our competitors are doing the same, but it feels like our chances of qualifying well this weekend are already better than in Singapore.”

Guanyu Zhou (16th): “Today everything went well for me: I feel like we are making progress, working on the pace, and the car is already faster than the weekend before. On this circuit we are already closer to the top ten.

At the end of the second session I felt that the car was having problems with the brakes, and when I returned to the pits the team immediately started to solve the problem.

We spent time checking the settings on both cars during practice and gathered a lot of information that will be useful in the evening when we choose the most effective settings and prepare for Saturday.”
