Magnussen: Suzuka is not the best track for our car

A week ago, Haas racers in Singapore showed results in the low tens all weekend, but in Japan the situation changed. Based on the results of Friday’s training, the team determined that Suzuka was not suitable for the VF-23.

Nico Hulkenberg (13th): “Good, but difficult Friday. The track is very fast with smooth long turns, which is not suitable for us. Such features of the racing expose the weaknesses of our car, but in the evening the team will continue to work hard. Let’s see what results we can achieve tomorrow.”

Kevin Magnussen (17th): “Suzuka is not the best track for us. Long corners, of which there are many on this circuit, are the weak point of our car. It will be a tough weekend, but I always say we will do our best.”

Gunther Steiner, team leader: “All in all a good day. In terms of speed, we obviously don’t know where we stand compared to the others, but at least we have gone through the entire test program.

I think our drivers have gotten the most out of the car they have at their disposal, and that is the most important thing at the moment. Productive training is important to be as well prepared as possible for qualifying and the race.”
