Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda posted the fifteenth and eighteenth fastest times respectively in the second practice session of the Japanese Grand Prix. The AlphaTauri drivers noted that the new products did not allow them to improve as much as they wanted in the team, and that there is still work to be done.
Liam Lawson (15th): “Suzuka is very different from the track in Singapore, so now it is difficult to say anything about new products. I said before the weekend that it would take time to get the most out of the updates, so we’ll continue to look at where we can improve.
The second training was not as successful as the first, but we don’t know what programs the others used. I think it helps that I know the track from my time in Super Formula, so my team and I can spend more time improving our speed.
There is plenty of time to learn a lot before qualifying and the race. This is a stationary track and although today was a difficult day, another training session is scheduled for tomorrow morning.”
Yuki Tsunoda (18th): “We have felt the effect of the updates we have brought to Singapore, but we are not yet as competitive as we would like, so we need to study telemetry to understand the reason. I feel like there is still room for improvement, so we will analyze everything tonight.
“I’m looking forward to qualifying tomorrow because it’s the fastest session of the weekend and in Suzuka you can feel the speed of a Formula 1 car. I’m loving it and I hope I can reach the final and keep the fans happy can make.”
