In Suzuka, Fernando Alonso made it to the final qualifying, and Lance Stroll dropped out of contention in the first session…
Fernando Alonso (10th): “It was difficult to achieve more. I did my best and I’m happy that I was able to continue my run of reaching the qualifying finals.
The efficiency level of our car varies from track to track. We knew in advance that today would not be easy, but tomorrow’s race should be interesting. Normally we perform better in the race than in qualifying. Let’s see how it goes this time.”
Lance walk (17th): “We did well, but the car didn’t have enough speed. He didn’t ride as well as I would have liked, so I lost a few tenths coming out of the last corner, and because the results are so tight, that makes a difference. I hope we can have a good race tomorrow and gain some positions.”
