In Suzuka, Kevin Magnussen advanced to the second part of qualifying, and his teammate Nico Hulkenberg dropped out of the battle in the first phase…
Kevin Magnussen (15th): “I am satisfied. We knew this track wasn’t suitable for us, but I got the best possible result.
Having a 15th qualifying time gives you an idea of what to expect in the race, but I’m happy we got better handling, I’m having more fun on track, so our work has paid off.”
Nico Hulkenberg (18th): “Strange qualification. My first lap was canceled because I went off track. On the second lap I rode well in the first sector and tried to improve the second, but only lost. We need to figure out why we can’t make the car go faster.
Tire wear is very high here, but this applies to everyone. We have to see what we can do strategically to come back.”
