After a successful performance in Canada, Esteban Ocon hopes to build on his success at Silverstone…
Q: How do you rate the results of the past two weeks, after which Formula 1 returns to Europe for a long time?
Esteban Okon: We left Canada with a sense of pride and earned a lot of points. The speed of the car allowed us to earn points with two cars, we hoped to change the balance of power in the battle for fourth place in the constructors’ championship, which in the end happened.
Now we look forward to the next phase to compete for higher positions on the starting grid. We will be bringing some new products to Silverstone, I hope the coming weeks will be successful.
I’ve used the past week to recover from an exciting two-race streak – and more importantly to prepare for the doubles at Silverstone and Austria. I visited the base, analyzed the last race with the engineers and worked on the simulator. Now the whole team is looking forward to Silverstone, one of our two home races.
Q: How important is the home race to the team?
Esteban Ocon: It’s great that we’re racing this weekend near our base in Enstone – it’s important for everyone on the team. Many of our employees can spend the night at home during the weekend, their family and friends come to the stands. They work hard all year round and only here can they cheer us on from the stands.
There are always a lot of fans at Silverstone who are passionate and knowledgeable about Formula 1. We know the atmosphere will be fantastic – and we hope to put on a good show.
Q: You have often played at Silverstone, what do you think of this song?
Esteban Ocon: This is one of the fastest tracks on the calendar, I love playing there. The famous Maggotts, Becketts and Copse curves are a real challenge for engineers and drivers. The track has an amazing configuration, including several fast corners and short straights, which require the skill of the drivers and the efficiency of the cars.
Another important factor is the weather, which can change the situation immediately – we have seen this more than once in the past. Hopefully another classic Grand Prix awaits us this weekend – with a good result for Alpine.
