Liam Lawson’s impressive Formula 1 debut left him with little hope of signing with AlphaTauri in 2024, but at Suzuka the team announced contract extensions for Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo.
Theoretically, Lawson could challenge for the Williams seat currently occupied by Logan Sargent, whose contract has not yet been confirmed, but the New Zealand driver has made it clear he is not interested in playing for the Grove team.
Liam Lawson: “I am a Red Bull driver and unfortunately for me all the seats at Red Bull are taken, so I will remain in the team as a reserve driver.
It is clear that my goal is to compete in Formula 1, and I will do everything I can to achieve this in the future. The positive aspects of working with Red Bull include the fact that I have been part of their program for five years now. All these years, from day one, I have been under enormous pressure, and I have already gotten used to it. This makes me ready to get behind the wheel of their car.”
