Carlos Sainz finished sixth at Suzuka, but thinks he could have done better if Ferrari’s strategy had been more aggressive…
Carlos Sainz: “The car drove faster than the results suggest. We were very fast from the start, on the first lap I felt I had a better pace than the guys at the front.
I kept an eye on the condition of the tires, but I was a few positions ahead, which affects the speed, especially because overtaking is difficult in Suzuka.
After I found the right rhythm, I was optimistic and felt the car well. It’s a shame we lost a lot of time at the last pit stop, but it is what it is.
I was a little surprised that the tire degradation was lower than expected, but we decided to play it safe against possible attacks from Hamilton and Alonso, although I continued to monitor the condition of the tires with confidence.
It is clear that we are on the right track. We must continue to work in this direction.”
