Williams has a shortage of spare parts due to frequent accidents

There are still six rounds to go until the end of the Formula 1 season and Williams is already facing a shortage of spare parts due to frequent accidents, mainly involving Logan Sargent. The problem is particularly acute on the front wings, as the team’s chief race engineer Dave Robson said after the race’s finish in Japan.

“At the moment we are using stock parts, but when these run out we will have to fit old specification parts to the car,” says Robson. “Logistics and transport of spare parts to some circuits during the road series will be even more difficult.”

Team boss James Vowles explained the reasons for the parts shortage: “Our production capacity is at the same level as twenty years ago. The team has only two autoclaves in which they can bake carbon parts.

To replenish the parts with the latest specifications, we will have to outsource the work, which costs time, effort and three times as much money. It would be much more effective to invest this money in 2024 and 2025 cars. Therefore, we have to install spare parts of the previous specification on the car if necessary due to an accident.”

Logan Sargent’s results, especially compared to teammate Alex Albon, are not great, but James Vowles guaranteed that Logan will compete in all remaining races of the season: “Logan deserves it. Remember, he is in his debut season. Many continued to crash their cars in the second year. Formula 1 is a difficult business for debutants, for which you can hardly prepare. Just learn from your own experience.

In Suzuka, Logan performed three training sessions as I expected him to. In his fastest lap in the first part of qualifying before the accident, he was almost as fast as Alex. It shows he has speed.”
