Lewis Hamilton: I’m waiting for my Brazilian passport

A bill to make Lewis Hamilton an honorary citizen of Brazil is pending in the lower house of the Brazilian parliament, but has not yet been voted on.

Speaking in Sao Paulo at an event dedicated to business and digital transformation, the seven-time world champion said he would like to visit Brazil more often.

Lewis Hamilton: “I want to spend more time in Brazil. There is a great culture here. So far I’ve only been to Rio and Sao Paulo, but I want to return at Christmas or New Years, go somewhere else.

Neymar and Gabriel Medina invite me every year, but I haven’t had the chance… I’m waiting for my Brazilian passport.”

Presidential candidate Ciro Gomes has backed honorary citizenship for the Mercedes driver.

“Lewis, you already live in our hearts, and with the honorary citizenship you come even closer to us,” he wrote on social media when Hamilton posted a photo of himself with the Brazilian flag above the headline about the initiative.

“Post for honour,” replied the Brit.
