Williams wants to keep Sargent until 2024

Williams boss James Vowles attempted to end discussions about Logan Sargent’s future in a new response. According to him, the team is far from ending its collaboration with the American driver and would like to see him as part of Williams in 2024.

James Vowles: “Logan has clear goals to achieve before the end of the season and we are constantly working towards them. It is important to emphasize: we are working with him and we want him to succeed. We want him to drive our car next year, and that largely depends on us.

We took a Formula 2 driver and didn’t give him full tests. Logan spent a day and a half behind the wheel during pre-season testing in Bahrain, after which we simply wished him the best of luck in what promised to be a very difficult season for any rookie.

We will continue to work with and invest in Logan because we want him to succeed.”

James Vowles added that Sargent’s often noticeable gap to teammate Alex Albon is due to the fact that Albon’s car had new features but Logan’s car did not: “Logan’s car did not always have the same aerodynamic configuration as Alex’s. When you see a speed difference, it often doesn’t necessarily have to do with what you would think when looking at a stopwatch.

We have a young rider program in which we continue to invest. Only when we realize that we have reached the end of the road will we start making decisions, but we are still a long way from that point.’
