Video: Lewis Hamilton about his work at Mercedes

The Mercedes team decided to once again explain to the fans things that seemed obvious, but to do it a little differently, so they made videos in which the drivers themselves talk about themselves and their work.

Perhaps there is nothing particularly new in this video for many, but Lewis Hamilton spoke in less than three minutes about the most important aspects of the job of a Formula 1 driver, and his words are clearly supported by a good selection of images taken at different times are filmed. in different situations, and people who are just now discovering the world of motorsport can get answers to some basic questions.

To quote just one sentence from the annotation to this video: “Lewis is a seven-time world champion, but his role is not limited to what you see on the track, it is much more important.”

Lewis Hamilton: “Hello, my name is Lewis Hamilton and I am a Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver. I started participating at the age of four. First I raced radio-controlled cars, then I started karting from the age of eight, which I did until I was sixteen.

At the age of 17 I started racing open wheel cars, and you could say I was only a semi-professional racer until I was 21, and when I turned 22 I finally became a professional. Since then I have been competing in Formula 1, which I have been doing for 16 years.

To summarize everything a Formula 1 driver does: our job is to achieve the best possible result for the team and help find the right direction for upgrading the car.

Every time I get behind the wheel, I try to drive to the limits of my ability and the team uses my impressions to understand how to act to improve the car.

To improve the results, the driver needs skill and ability to drive at high speeds, and together with the team we analyze the collected information in detail, trying not to miss anything and at the same time finding the right approach to the settings.

It’s important to make sure every element is in place so you can perform at the highest possible level every weekend. In addition, it is necessary that every team member who works with you also gives the best of themselves.

Outside of the race weekend, I have several obligations to the team, ultimately related to our business partners, who in turn help us develop and participate in the World Championship. These are all kinds of film shoots, advertising campaigns and the like.

In addition, I spend some time at the team base, working on the simulator and communicating with specialists from different departments, because we are in direct contact with the engineers developing the car. You also need to train constantly, as intensely as you can.

In principle, this must be done between all the activities mentioned. In addition, you need to diet, recover normally after racing, sleep, rest, etc.

The hardest part of the job is the psychological aspect, because… Every weekend you have to consistently perform at the highest possible level. And the best part of it is the opportunity to drive the fastest cars in the world, travel the world, get to know new countries and their culture, and meet different people.

My most vivid memories of my time at Mercedes relate to my first victory behind the wheel of a car for the team, which I won in Budapest in 2013, the first championship we won together, and our seventh title.

And I’m also happy every day I spend with this team, because I love these people and appreciate our friendship. We are trying to achieve a common goal and we share a common passion.”
