Preliminary negotiations are already underway between Lando Norris and McLaren management regarding the possible continuation of the collaboration after the expiry of the current contract.
The Brit’s commitment to the team means he will drive for McLaren until the end of 2025, while his teammate Oscar Piastri recently extended his contract until 2026. All this guarantees stability for the Woking team in the medium term, as McLaren continues to updating its infrastructure.
Norris is considered a promising driver and there are already rumors of interest from Red Bull and Ferrari, but McLaren team boss Andrea Stella has said they will try to ensure Lando stays.
“Of course we are negotiating with him,” Speedcafe quotes Stella. “They are making good progress and we are pleased with how the process is going.”
In the last seven races, Norris finished on the podium four times and finished second, which became possible after McLaren successfully modernized the car. According to the team leader, such an early start to the negotiation process indicates a high level of trust between the participants. The details of the contract with Oscar Piastri were discussed in the same spirit.
“In the case of Lando, we act in the same way: we try to confirm what we promise as fully as possible on the track, and try to create the preconditions so that the team can continue to develop in the coming years,” said Stella. “I personally won’t feel completely comfortable negotiating with a driver, trying to convince him of something, if I don’t have any trump cards up my sleeve.
You don’t want to be in a situation where the driver says, “You promised me this and that would happen, but it doesn’t happen.” Therefore, my arguments and the arguments Zach Brown gives have a basis in reality, they are based on facts.
We don’t just want to lure people with money, we want riders to trust us and continue to work with the team, truly believing in the success of our joint project.”
