This weekend, the traditional motorsport festival Rennsport Reunion, organized by Porsche, will take place in the Californian city of Monterey. But one of the most popular and fun events in the festival program was yesterday’s tractor race.
Despite the fact that the speed of these vehicles does not exceed 30 km/h, such competitions not only attract the attention of the public – famous racers take part in them with pleasure.
“We had as much fun as possible at such speeds!” – said Nick Tandy, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015 with Nico Hulkenberg and Earl Bamber in a sports prototype Porsche 919 Hybrid.
Tandy is not only a master of endurance racing: he is a successful farmer in his home country of Great Britain, so he has extensive experience driving tractors and other agricultural machinery.
“The most important thing here is to keep the momentum going,” he added cheerfully. “I think the aerodynamic balance of my tractor was perfectly fine and I was able to make full use of the tire life!”
Among the motorsport stars who took part in the tractor race were Brazilian Felipe Nasr, a former Formula 1 driver and winner of last year’s 24 Hours of Daytona, Jörg Bergmeister, who won the WEC LMGTE Am class in 2019, and Australian Matt Campbell in 2022. – winner of the title in the GTD Pro category in the American IMSA Championship.
