Piastri: I like that we have a sprint weekend

McLaren is preparing for the Qatar stage, where they expect to continue the series of successful performances, but at the same time refrain from making specific predictions, as no one has yet driven the new generation of cars in Losail.

Lando Norris: “After the break we will race again. We had a very successful performance in Japan, where I finished second again and the team enjoyed a double podium. The car had good pace, which is encouraging heading into the seven remaining rounds of the season.

The next race is in Qatar and now that the sprint is back in the weekend program, this means that we have more opportunities to earn points.

This will only be our second time racing at the Losail International Circuit, so there will be a lot to sort out in practice on Friday. Over the past few weeks I have been working intensively with the engineers at the team base in Woking in preparation for the weekend. In Qatar we will try to get the most out of the car and hope to replenish our points.”

Oscar Piastri: “After my first podium finish I had a great time, but now it’s time to go to Qatar. I will again be confronted with an unknown number, but of course this only makes the tasks even more interesting. Last week I worked with the engineers to analyze the information collected in Japan, and we tried to understand what it would be useful for us in Qatar.

I like that it’s a sprint weekend. We hope we can do everything right because there are more opportunities to earn points. I now want to get started on the track as soon as possible.”

Andrea Stella, team manager: “The Qatar Grand Prix awaits us and now it is important to analyze everything we have achieved this season. Achieving 2nd and 3rd place in Japan was not easy, but we did it thanks to the excellent work we did at the team base and on the race tracks. We are determined to continue making progress and regularly try to qualify for high positions.

The race in Qatar is quite new for Formula 1 and we have only been to the Losail circuit once, which was in 2021. But we are going to race there for the first time in new generation cars, so everyone will try to be as efficient possible to train, and the sprint only increases the difficulties.

As always, we will try to earn as many points as possible and strengthen our position in the Constructors’ Championship as much as possible.”
