Danner: Team managers don’t believe in Mick Schumacher

The chances of Mick Schumacher racing in Formula 1 again next year are slim, and Christian Danner, a former racing driver turned TV commentator, is not surprised.

Since Williams has not yet announced the name of the driver who will compete for this team with Alex Albon, there remains at least one vacancy in the world championship – so there is still hope. But most likely Mick will continue to serve as a reserve driver for Mercedes and it is possible that he will combine this work with endurance racing.

“During the two years that Mick was active in Formula 1, the team managers got the impression that they actually did not need such a driver,” Sport.de quotes Danner. “But look at Liam Lawson, who now drives an AlphaTauri, and this is also a very unimportant car.

What has he managed to achieve? He overcame this test with absolute dignity, was ahead of the team’s main team driver, earned points and already demonstrated in his first Grand Prix what he was capable of.

But Schumacher has failed to make a name for himself in two years, and this obviously has far-reaching consequences. Now no team leader in Formula 1 believes in him.”

Regarding the vacancy at Williams, Danner is of course willing to advise James Vowles, who heads the British team, to pay attention to Lawson: “It would be the best solution for them. Until Sergio Perez is fired from Red Bull, Liam won’t be busy next year. “It is very possible that he spends one season at Williams and then moves to Red Bull Racing.”
