Former Formula 1 chief Ecclestone supported Russian athletes

Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Eclestone spoke out in favor of the return of Russian athletes to international sports.

Most international sports federations have suspended Russians from tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.

“Now I am no longer able to do anything about it. I don’t know what would have affected that. I think it is wrong to prevent Russian athletes, including runners, from playing sports. They weren’t involved in the first place so they shouldn’t be punished,” Ecclestone, 91, told Good Morning Britain.

On March 5, Haas terminated the contract with driver Nikita Mazepin, who played for the team last season. Earlier, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced the neutral status of Russian and Belarusian riders when performing in racing series due to the situation in Ukraine.
