Bortoleto joins McLaren’s youth programme

2023 Formula 3 champion Gabriel Bortoleto has joined the McLaren youth program. The Brazilian racer joins fellow program participants Pato O’Ward, Rio Hirakawa and Hugo Ugochukwu and will work under the guidance of project manager Emanuel Pirro.

In addition, McLaren signed a one-year option with Italian Formula 4 driver Brando Badoer, son of former Ferrari reserve driver Luca Badoer. Next season the team will evaluate the driver, based on the results it can offer Badoer permanent participation in the youth program.

Emanuele Pirro: “I am delighted to welcome Gabriel to the McLaren youth programme. I have known him since he started his career and he has all the qualities to become a star both on and off the court. It also fits perfectly with McLaren’s culture. I look forward to working with Gabriel and helping him develop his career.

I am also excited to work with Brando Badoer, with whom we have signed an option and will continue to evaluate next year.

Gabriel and Brando join our talented team of riders, with whom we work on individual development to give them all the tools they need to grow in their careers.”

Gabriel Bortoleto: “I am happy to be part of the McLaren youth program and grateful to Emanuel and the team for this opportunity.

I have already been to the base in Woking, where I was given a tour and introduced to the team – an interesting experience. I look forward to continuing my development at McLaren.”
