Kevin Magnussen is one of the many drivers who have not competed in Qatar before. Before the start of the weekend, the Dane said that the sprint format with only one training session would complicate his preparation for the race on a new circuit.
Kevin Magnussen: “I have to compete for myself on a new track and to learn that I only need one training session. It is a challenge. Many riders have already ridden here in 2021, but the circuit has changed a bit so it will be a new element for everyone. As the weekend is in a sprint format, there will be extra pressure during the first practice as it is necessary to have time to select the settings.
The team is not in the best shape at the moment. I would like to have a more competitive car, especially because the competition in the peloton is so tight that it seems like we are far behind.
At the same time, however, such a delay is a motivating factor for all of us: we know we have to push a little, and the results will come. We will get a long-awaited update to the car at the next round in Austin, but now it is important to complete the race this weekend.”
