Alex Albon is one of those who has not yet had the chance to race on the Losail circuit, as in 2021, when the debut Qatar Grand Prix took place, he took part in the German DTM touring car series. But he already likes this track, even though so far he only knows it from a virtual model on a simulator.
Alex Albon: “I haven’t even walked along the track yet, although I was going to do that during the day, but due to the terrible heat I decided to postpone the walk to a later time. The circuit looks great and I drove around it in a simulator, which was a lot of fun. But we need to take a closer look at the curbs – it seems that problems can arise here due to violations of the route limits.
In terms of the pace the Williams car is capable of this weekend, I would like to believe I can conquer the first part of qualifying and put in a good lap in the second. The two previous races were difficult for us, mainly due to the warm conditions, and the FW45’s tires wore out quickly. This weekend the situation won’t be much better, but I hope we can handle it because the track itself is actually quite good for our car.
Again, it is interesting how the wind will affect its behavior, because here it is very strong, and if it blows in the same direction when turning, it will not be so nice, because our car is very sensitive to the effects of wind. ”
Albon was also asked whether his teammate, Logan Sargent, deserves a spot on the team next year.
“It’s not up to me to make the decision, but I already know Logan quite well, I see the speed he shows and I don’t think he gets the grades he really deserves,” Alex replied. – He has a great talent for speed, but everything is somewhat spoiled by the few mistakes he made. It is not up to me to give him grades, but we get along very well and I can say with all seriousness that he just needs to be given more time and he will show good results.”
