Williams is the only championship team that still has a vacancy, and only Alex Albon is certain that he will continue to drive his car in 2024. As for Logan Sargent, the American driver is ranked 20th in the personal rankings and has not yet scored a single point, but he has crashed cars more than once.
However, team boss James Vowles recently made it clear that he remains confident in Sargent: “We want him to drive our car next year and that is very much up to us.”
Albon answered a question about his partner at yesterday’s FIA press conference and also said that in his opinion Logan deserves a place in Formula 1. According to Sargent himself, he will try to at least partially make up for previous failures in the remaining races of the season.
“I have a normal mood. To be honest, if we talk about my race pace, it wasn’t bad over the previous four stages,” Logan said before the start of the race weekend in Qatar. “But I just had to avoid problems, and they were decisive in recent weekends, and not my pace, which is gradually improving.
Apparently the most important thing now is to somehow compensate for all this, for which I have to make sure that my weekends pass without complications. Given the pace we are capable of, I think I can afford to slow down a bit so nothing can overshadow the weekend.
As far as I understand, the circuit in Qatar is very interesting and I learned a lot from it while practicing on the simulator. But with Saturday’s sprint ahead, the weekend promises to be difficult, and not just for us, but for everyone in general.
I think the condition of the track will change very quickly, because nowadays we are the only ones racing in Losail, so at the start of Friday’s practice the asphalt will be very dirty, and this could already become an important factor.
The weather conditions in practice and during qualifying will be very different, so you have to try to anticipate a lot during the preparation for qualifying to find a way to make it as good as possible.”
