During qualifying in Qatar, Yuki Tsunoda advanced to the second part of qualifying, while his AlphaTauri teammate Liam Lawson qualified in the first…
Yuki Tsunoda (11th): “I am happy with my performance. It’s easy to crash on such a fast track, but I didn’t make any mistakes. We can’t say that everything worked out for us – I wanted to get to the final, but still I start close to the top ten, so everything is fine.
There are places where I can go faster, but the new products prepared by the team are working, so we are optimistic. There is room for improvement, another qualification awaits us on Saturday, I will try to achieve more.
Conditions were difficult. During practice the wind was a big problem, but in qualifying the wind died down, the temperature dropped – and it became a lot easier. The wind makes the car turn differently in some corners, but this is one of the features of the track that makes the battle even more interesting.”
Liam Lawson (18th): “Difficult day. From the first time I went out on track during Friday practice, I had problems with the car. We have gradually eliminated them, but there is still something to work with.
During the day the track was covered with sand, in qualifying the situation improved and in the final laps everything went well, but the problems with the car’s handling remained.
Because I don’t have confidence in the car, I lose time in some corners, but I hope I can improve in the next sessions.”
