Max Verstappen commented on the news that the Aston Martin factory team will debut in the WEC hypercar class in 2025, and his words attracted serious attention from the press, when he promised to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
With five minutes to go, the three-time world champion hopes that he can make this wish come true in the future behind the wheel of a car designed by Adrian Newey and built by Red Bull.
“Certainly, I am going to Le Mans, but for that everything has to be right,” RacingNews365 quotes Verstappen. “I don’t want to show up there just to participate.” If you are going to participate, it is good to prepare for it and claim victory.
Of course, there is a BoP (Balance of Performance, i.e. “Balance of Performance”, but essentially it is a weight handicap), and this always causes some problems, but at least I want to be competitive, and this requires careful preparation. And of course, if possible, I want to race there in the RB17 hypercar.
But overall it’s great and great news for the sport that Aston Martin will be competing in the WEC with their Valkyrie. It’s a cool car and the V12 engine sounds incredible. I am very happy for them, I will follow their performance and probably Fernando Alonso will drive this car, which is also great.”
Max Verstappen has not yet competed in endurance races, although he has never hidden his interest in the Le Mans Marathon, and in recent years has taken part in 24-hour virtual races with Team Redline, his eSports team.
