To avoid tire problems next season, Lewis Hamilton proposed to carry out winter testing in Qatar, at the circuit that is the most demanding in terms of tires on the calendar.
Lewis Hamilton: “We have a lot to improve. Obviously we need better quality tires, but I don’t think the manufacturer alone is responsible for the problems that have arisen.
We don’t have enough tests. We don’t test on circuits with fast corners like here. I suggested during the briefing to hold three days of winter testing here in Qatar, as the tires are not exposed to such loads anywhere else during the season.
Whatever decisions the FIA makes, we have very heavy cars, more downforce than ever, and then these tires – problems were to be expected. The cars used to be just as fast with half the downforce and much better grip from Bridgestone and Michelin tires. We have to pay attention to that, because next season the situation could become even more difficult.”
