The victory in Qatar was Max Verstappen’s 14th of the season and the 49th of his career. Max started from pole, led from start to finish and set the fastest lap, winning the Grand Slam. After the finish, the current world champion said that although he had the situation under control, the race turned out to be one of the most difficult.
His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez received a five-second penalty for infringement and earned one point for tenth place.
Max Verstappen (1st): “The fate of the race was decided in the first segment. Then I simply controlled the pace and made sure the tires were always in the optimal operating range.
The McLaren drivers were very fast again today and the race itself turned out to be one of the most difficult. The race is definitely in my top five most difficult.
Now we can celebrate the success a bit, but there are still a few stages to go this season that we want to win.”
