The McLaren team can once again be congratulated: they finished in the top three in both races of the weekend in Qatar, and in both cases Oscar Piastri managed to beat his more experienced teammate.
Lando Norris (3rd): “It was a mega race! From start to finish, from the very first lap! I have drawn my conclusions after yesterday: I made a mistake in the sprint, I went too wide into the corner. But today I opted for a different route, I rode closer to the inner edge, so the start went well, after which we showed a good pace over the entire distance.
Our pace was probably better than everyone else’s, so I’m happy. The race was intense, hot, I had to sweat, so I was a bit tired.
The team has done a great job and this is our third podium in a row. We also had some great pit stops, so kudos to our mechanics! Because the race was held with three pit stops, it was even more physically demanding for us, as we had to attack much more aggressively in such short periods. And I rode the last part almost at full speed.
It was probably one of my toughest races, a real challenge, but it was interesting! Congratulations to Oscar, he rode flawlessly and of course I congratulate Max on another victory!”
Oscar Piastri (2nd): “Of course I am very happy! In the first corner everything went very well – this is exactly what we planned to do before the race. After which we were able to achieve an impressive pace.
But it was definitely the hardest race of my life. It was really hot. As Lando said, the three pit stops forced us to attack with almost full force the entire time, turning the Qatar Grand Prix into 57 qualifying laps – or at least that’s how it feels now. Overall, I’m very happy to be back on the podium.”
