Future AlphaTauri boss Peter Bayer said at a press conference on Friday that Daniel Ricciardo’s return is planned for the American Grand Prix.
Peter Bayer: “We plan for Daniel to return to the wheel in Austin. He did some simulator work on Monday and said he felt OK, but not 100%, so we didn’t rush into it. Given the presence of reserve driver Liam Lawson in the team, who could compete immediately, we decided together to give Ricciardo some more time to recover.
I think everyone will agree that Lawson’s debut at Zandvoort wasn’t easy, but he did a great job in the rain on a tricky track. Liam interacts well with the engineers, absorbs information and improves with every round. He learns very quickly.
Lawson fights well on the court. I must say that I admire what he has done in Singapore. It appeared that his car was twice as wide as those of his rivals.
After the race I called him “Liam the Lion” and he impressed me with his performance and continues to impress me. I am very happy that he has become a member of our family.”
